Spray Lining Industry Scams
Scams typically involve a situation where one party somehow gets money or other valuable items from another and gives nothing in return. Scams exist in all industries. In today's competitive online business front many companies employ negative feedback as a mechanism to compete. The problem is this can unfairly hurt upstanding reputable companies. The cost of combatting negative attacks online is very costly and can drain a company financially. As well, just getting the proper resources to defend oneself is costly and time consuming.
Scams in the Coatings industry
Paint scams
Curb Painting Scam - In California and other areas there has been "less than honorable" business being done by independent groups soliciting with flyers. The document
states that the company is painting curbs as a service to the public as the addresses on a street are very important for fire men, police officers and medical staff. They
state that this service is by donation only and they will come back and collect the donation of the "fair" cost or less. This is a low key scam as the people that represent
this service are not pushy and go away easily.
There are strict guidelines about curb painting, especially in California. Also, there are liability requirements for insurance purpose. So, these groups in many cases are
breaking the law by the action.
Not only this, but the scammers are using the "college student" speech to tug on the heartstrings of potential payees.
Beware of this type of scam as many have complained of paying and NOT having the service rendered.
Bedliner scams
Material is not enough - Many bedliner companies do not provide enough material to cover an 8 ft truck bed effectively. This happens in many cases
because the height or thickness of the bedliner is not addressed in coverage calculations. Better yet, the required thickness for a bedliner is not advertised by
many companies like Rhino Lining, Line-X, Scorpion Coatings, Herculiner, Al's Liner and others.
There are numerous spray coatings that are fakes, fraudulent using low quality product & untrained applicators.
Always be sure to compare your spray-on lining company's product reviews taking careful note of the components of the products being advertised.
There are a variety of formulas and components used in sprayed industrial lining, bedliners rolled & troweled coatings.
For top quality tough bedliner make sure to research then verify it’s a 2 part and 3 part polyurea or polyhybrid bedliner and NOT 1 part.
No one part coating can match quality of 2 or 3 part systems as of yet.
They dry slow, can’t provide the protection or adhesion needed to keep your bedlining safe from heavy wear and tear or impact associated with tough jobs.
Dealership scams
Warranty - The majority of bedliner companies do not actually provide a true warranty on bedliners. The warranty falls under the liability of the installer. In many cases any warranty will not be covered. Custom Equipment - Rhinolining and others turn the dealership concept into a scam when they force the dealer into expensive propreietary equipment. The truth is there is no reason for this. Any coating can be thinned or thickened to spray through any aperture, hence negating the need for specially tooled equipment.
Chemical scams
CMC Drain Cleaner Scam - In this scam incident a company calls various companies, talks to a rep and sells them on a chemical degreaser that they may or may not need. At some point the victim is shipped and billed for material that they may have verbally refused. The product is shipped to some are of the company with the hopes that it is accepted. Then a billing statement is issued. The harrassing company denies the return of product when victim company calls about this. - The offending company preys on companies NOT investigating their bills and simply paying the bills. This is underhanded and definitely a scam. The full article is here: Complaints Board Reference to this scam
Spray-Lining Scam
This year, we started seeing all these positive and negative posts about spray bedliner scams. Because of our generic name and some incorrect research, we have been pulled into an ongoing battle between some companies. This Peter Burgee and Eric Marsh have been following the owner of clearline and hammerhead bedliner and coating companies. In that process they have incorrectly brought the company Spray-Lining into it. We now have to defend our reputation for high quality support and a superior product on a regular basis. This is detremental to our business and is costing us thousands of dollars per month to protect ourselves. Even our dealers are feeling the hit. There are legitimate spray-lining dealers who have lost business due to mis-directed anger. These assaults on upstanding reputable companies is ridiculous and uncalled for. We are working diligently to clear our company from these false statements and references to businesses that have performed some inappropriate transactions. We do not work for a quick buck. We are competing with large, wealthy companies by providing a superior product and the best technical support that can be found inthe industry.
